Paralympian Danielle Aitchison won a bronze medal tonight in Tokyo in the Women’s 100m T36, now taking her medal haul to 1 silver and 1 bronze. This came only minutes after Sophie Pascoe won gold in the pool. This now takes the medal tally for the New Zealand Paralympic Team to 10 medals including 4 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze.

Aitchison went into the event qualifying fastest from the morning heats and ranked number 1 in the world. She ran a solid race stating she was a bit tired due to her celebral palsy but really concentrated. She put the power in the last 20m to take the bronze medal by the narrowest of margins. There was only 0.05 seconds between second and fourth.  The Women’s 100m T36 was won by Yiting Shi (China) in a world record time of 13.61 and silver went to Elena Ivanova (RPC) in time of 14.60.
