Paralympics New Zealand - Board Member Vacancy

Closing date: 4 June 2024

Paralympics New Zealand (PNZ) is the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) for New Zealand. PNZ is part of a worldwide social change movement, which uses the power of sport to positively influence community perceptions of disabled people and to promote a more diverse and inclusive society.

PNZ supports and celebrates the achievements of Para athletes at international and national competitions all year round. Every two years, PNZ leads the New Zealand Paralympic Team to the Paralympic Games. We also work PNZ members, key stakeholders and partners, to advocate for sport to become more accessible for disabled people and to support the creation of more systems and programmes to enable participation in Para sport.

The Board Appointment Panel is interested in hearing from interested applicants with governance experience, and a strong affinity to disability sport and equity for all.

Additionally, of particular interest are applicants with extensive experience in high performance sports systems, and/or Para sport and disability sport.

Current organisation priorities and areas of focus include:

  • Continue working with sport organisations, creating athlete pathways to grow the number of Para sports and Para athletes attending the Paralympic Games by 2032, and beyond.
  • Changing the Constitution to align with the Incorporated Societies Act 2022 requirements and specifically including the athlete voice as part of governance.
  • Continued focus on driving social change through the Para sport lens.
  • Maintaining existing partnerships, and progressing new commercial and revenue opportunities.
  • Progressing our Te Tiriti journey as an organisation.
